For five decades, the Gold Coast visitor economy has been shaped by collaboration, ambition, and a shared belief in the potential of our city.
Today, Experience Gold Coast (EGC) is proud to release a short film and digital publication reflecting on 50 Years of Destination Stewardship: The Gold Coast Visitor Economy 1975–2025, a story of partnerships, perseverance and the people who helped transform a coastal community into one of Australia’s leading visitor destinations.
This reflection also marks a moment to honour the remarkable commitment of our tourism industry, noting that:
- Almost half of all current EGC Industry Partners (210 businesses) have partnered with EGC and its predecessor organisations for 10 years or more.
- 88 businesses have remained engaged for more than 20 years
- Almost 50 Partners have maintained their partnership for more than 30 years
- 14 Partners have maintained their partnership for 40 years or more
EGC is especially proud to recognise Sea World, as the founding Industry Partner, having worked alongside EGC and its predecessor organisations for 50 years.
Special acknowledgement is also extended to Gold Coast Turf Club, Dreamworld, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and The Island Gold Coast, each of which have maintained their partnership for more than 45 years.
These long-standing relationships are a powerful reminder that the Gold Coast’s success has never been achieved by one organisation alone. It has been built through shared effort, long-term commitment, and a collective ambition to keep evolving as a destination.
The lesson of the last five decades is clear:
- We are better together.
- And the next chapter awaits.
